The Gathering 2024

This year's Gathering takes place in Dungarvan Co Waterford from 24th to 26th May.

The Gathering is a meeting of Film Photographers for an enjoyable weekend of Photography in Dungarvan. All types of film shooters are welcome, whether you are a 35mm, Medium Format or Large Format shooter. Some folks may even bring large plate cameras or even basic pin-hole cameras.

Friday 24th May
We start off the weekend at 8pm with a presentation in the upstairs private lounge of the Enterprise Bar by John McDermott on his photographic work. Anyone who wishes to arrive in Dungarvan any time earlier in the day can of course do so and take some photographs in the area.

Saturday 25th May
On Saturday morning, attendees can visit any of the beautiful local attractions such as:

• Mahon Falls – One can drive to the car park close to the waterfall or walk to it through the Comeragh Woods following the river as it crashes down waterfalls through interesting rock landscapes; and then into the open hills leading to Mahon Falls. This is quite a walk so suitable footwear advisable.

• Crough Woods – This is a shorter woodland walk where there can be lovely light glowing through the trees. Different trails exist so let us know if you need information on these.

• The Copper Coast – This drive along the coast provides access to beautiful coves and beaches as well as the old Copper Mines.

• Ardmore – Check out the Cliff Walk at Ardmore passing the Crane Barge stranded on the rocks and the old watch towers. Great sea views and bird life.

• Dungarvan – Stroll around Dungarvan at your leisure. Visit the Castle or relax by the Quays.

• The Greenway – If feeling energetic, hire a bike and cycle along the Green Way, stopping to photograph the viaducts and Ballyvoyle Tunnel. The best option is to get one of the bike rental companies to drop you at Kilmacthomas as cycke back downhill to Dungarvan.

At 2pm there will be a Portrait Shoot in the back area of the The Enterprise Bar.

Sunday 26th May
Sunday is free to explore and photograph wherever you wish. There is no official end time for the weekend, so folks can depart for home at their leisure.

Accommodation & Restaurants
It is strongly recommended that if you wish to stay for one or both nights that you book accommodation as soon as possible.

You are free to book any of the many restaurants in Dungarvan for dinner but some of the more popular places will need to be reserved early in the day.

Each evening after dinner we meet up in The Enterprise Bar for a few pints and to discuss the days shooting.

Need Film or a Camera?
Brendan from The Photo Shop is happy to bring any film or other supplies you may require once ordered in advance.

We will have a few 35mm cameras available to borrow for anyone who doesn’t own a film camera but would like to try one out. Just let us know in advance if possible and bring a few rolls of film with you. We can also arrange to process your film afterwards if required.

Other Info
As with previous years, we will have a list of cameras and other equipment for sale, so if you have some gear surplus to your requirements, let us know in advance and bring the items with you if possible.

This will be our 6th annual Gathering and each year folks have returned and new people have also joined us. It doesn’t matter what level you are at photographically, we meet to share information, stories and have a good time with fellow photographers.

There is no fee for attending The Gathering, just let us know you are coming and we’ll be delighted to welcome you.

Feel free to contact us with any questions you have.

Looking forward to meeting you.
Julian, Peter & John.
